AND SELECTION PROCEDURES
The SC MN
JATC interviews qualified candidates twice a year in
the spring and summer. Scheduling of applicants is based
on industry needs. Typically one interview session is
scheduled during the month of March and the deadline
for these interviews is in January. Applicants who meet
all of the requirements will receive notifications of
the time and date of their interview before the Joint
Apprenticeship Committee, which is made up of 4 representatives
from the union and 4 representatives from management.
Each applicant will receive a ranking score, which is
a composite of the interview, past experience, education,
test scores, grades, etc. This score will place the
applicant on a list of eligibles in descending order
(higher scorer first, and so on down the list). The
number of apprentices to be indentured will depend entirely
on the amount of work available in the industry. A specific
number could be hired right away; then, as jobs become
available; apprentices will be selected from the list
of eligibles. Each person on the list will remain on
the list for two years.
