JOB DESCRIPTION
Includes the
assembly and breakdown of all piledriving equipment,
including cranes. Much climbing on leads is necessary,
which can be as high as 100 feet. Job often includes
heavy lifting, torch cutting and welding.
APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM
Applications
for this program are accepted on a year-round basis.
Applicants must apply in person. Applications will be
accepted from 9:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. weekdays except
over the lunch hour on the above days.

Program includes
8,000 hours of on-the-job training and a minimum of
144 hours of related-training each year. Additional
information on program procedures will be given at the
time of application.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be 17 years of age or older.
- Must have a high school diploma or a GED Certificate
of Equivalency.
- Must be a citizen of the US, or be in the process
of receiving naturalization.
- Must be capable of learning and performing the work
of the trade.
HIRING AND SELECTION PROCEDURES
Applicants
who meet all the qualifications will be individually
interviewed and rated by the Joint Apprenticeship Committee.
Each applicant will be notified in writing as to when
and where to appear for their interview.
The average
of the individual scores received by each applicant,
as a result of his/her interview, will be that applicant's
final score. The final score will determine the applicant's
position on a list of eligibles. Placing the applicant
with the highest score first on the list, and placing
each applicant in a descending order according to their
final score.
The date of
each approved candidate’s interview will determine
his or her date of entry into the two-year eligibility
pool. After the approved list is prepared, the committee
is free to meet and decide upon the number of apprentices
to be accepted into the program. Those taken into the
program will be notified of their acceptance.
Tools Needed
Worker is
expected to provide a 12-inch crescent wrench, 25-ounce
straight-claw hammer, pliers, 12-foot tape measure,
2-foot square, and 2-foot level. Starting costs are
approximately $175.
Transportation Requirements
Worker must provide own transportation.
Hours
Eight (8) hours daily from 7:00 AM until 3:30 PM.
Some days, workers may start as early as 5:30 AM in
order to avoid having to work during the hottest parts
of
the day.
Union Dues
Hiring is done through the hall only. There
is an initiation fee and monthly dues. |
