JOB DESCRIPTION

Insulation of mechanical systems Installation of insulation includes pasting, wiring, taping, or spraying.

APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM

Program is a four (4) year program, with on-the-job training and a minimum of 156 hours of related classroom instruction per year. During certain periods, the Joint Apprenticeship Committee hires for "Provisional Pre-Apprentices" for possible future employment. Notifications for this go out to various social service agencies 30 days prior to the beginning of the registration period. Registrations for this are usually held at:

QUALIFICATIONS

In order to enter the apprenticeship program, one must have first worked a minimum of 160 hours (approximately 1 month, between November and May) as a permit worker prior to applying for entrance into the apprenticeship program. She/he will then receive notifications on when testing procedures for entrance will begin.

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must have a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent. Must pass a standard physical examination (medical exam shall be administered after selection from the pool of applicants and prior to admission into the program).
  • Must achieve a satisfactory or better score on the appropriate aptitude test (S-432 R) as administered by the Minnesota Department of Economic Security.
  • Must achieve a satisfactory or better rating on a fair oral interview.

HIRING AND SELECTION PROCEDURES

All applicants who fail to meet the above qualifications will be furnished with a written notice. Selection from the pool of applicants meeting the above criteria shall be by descending order of score achieved on the oral interview and rating evaluation form, beginning with the highest score and in descending order of score.

Tools Needed

Small hand tools; worker will be informed about what else is expected at the beginning of the job training.

Transportation Requirements

Worker is usually expected to have his/her own car.

Hours

Generally eight (8) hour days, from 7:00 AM to 4:30 PM.

Wages

Starting wage is a percentage of journeyperson's wage rate, plus vacation and pension. A raise is given for every 2,000 hours worked.

Union Dues

Initiation fee is $400. $200 when starting the apprenticeship program, and $200 upon completion of the program. Monthly dues are approximately 4.25% of worker's gross pay each month.
